Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

TRUE SERVANTHOOD

When the other ten disciples heard about this, they became angry with the two brothers. So Jesus called them all together and said, “You know that the rulers of the heathen have power over them, and the leaders have complete authority. This, however, is not the way it shall be among you. If one of you wants to be great, he must be the servant of the rest; and if one of you wants to be first, he must be your slave — like the Son of Man, who did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life to redeem many people.”
Matthew 20:24‭-‬28 GNBDC

In the worldly system, greatness is determined by one exercising power over others. In the heavenly Kingdom, greatness is defined by one serving others. Service is the key to being in a place of prominence in heaven. It’s so interesting that it’s easy to associate ourselves with service but not the treatment of a servant. Desiring servant hood is noble. However agreeing to being treated as a servant is true humility. Servants occupy the true places of prominence in God’s kingdom. The best example of a servant nature is displayed by Christ Himself (Phil 2) who being by His nature God did not consider it natural to be grasped. But He humbled Himself to death. Even death on the cross. But God exalted Him that at the sound of His name, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is God. This is the trajectory of true servant hood. A life of service to others awaiting God’s reward. However in our age, we call ourselves servants but expect to be treated like kings. May God help us to have the right attitude. A servant attitude.
