LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

“How terrible for you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees! You hypocrites! You lock the door to the Kingdom of heaven in people’s faces, and you yourselves don’t go in, nor do you allow in those who are trying to enter!
Matthew 23:13 GNBDC

Christ now embarks on setting the record straight as far as the Pharisees are concerned. He speaks about them impeding others to get to heaven even as they themselves don’t go in. He must have been alluding to their legalistic ideals which are so lofty for anyone to attain. He must have been speaking about the do’s and don’ts they must have set time and time again laying a snare on the paths of them with a desire to know God. He must have been alluding to them being the ‘spiritual police’. Investigating others and judging them on their spiritual walk. These are the same challenges we all face today in this day and age. In an age when many have forsaken God, a number have appointed themselves as God’s assistants on earth. But are we called to set snares and impediments in the lives of others or are we called to embrace them? Christ told His disciples to let the little children to come to Him for the kingdom of God belongs to such…not perfect but believing…not mature but growing…not yet finished products but in the hands of the Potter. The philosophy of the Pharisees was those who don’t behave don’t believe and therefore they don’t belong. In Christ’s view, we first believe, then we belong as we are transformed more and more to behave like Him.
