“Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You kill the prophets and stone the messengers God has sent you! How many times have I wanted to put my arms round all your people, just as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would not let me! And so your Temple will be abandoned and empty. From now on, I tell you, you will never see me again until you say, ‘God bless him who comes in the name of the Lord.’ ”
Matthew 23:37-39 GNBDC
Christ demonstrates His love for Jerusalem. This is the same love He has for us. This is the love that makes Him desire to cover us, to protect us, to be our Lord and Savior. Yet it’s a love we’ve not allowed Him to show to us because of our closed hearts just as was the case with Jerusalem. When God reaches out to us, He expects us to respond to Him. However, He will not contend with man as stated in Genesis. If the spirit of man rejects God, He leaves him to his devises as stated in Romans 1 and 2. Jerusalem had rejected Christ. However, Christ desired to embrace the city. He therefore declared His departure until they declare Him as coming in God’s name. In essence, Christ was foretelling His second coming. This is the time when Jerusalem will believe in Him. Even for us, our rejection of the Christ is but for a moment. A time will come when as stated in Philippians, EVERY knee shall bow and EVERY tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
