The wall came down!
No literally…the wall around my house came down due to heavy rains.
And it didn’t just come down…
It did lots of damage in the process…
My neighbor’s car was damaged…
It moved heaps of soil into the next compound…
Now we’re left with costs to count and lots of work ahead of us.
I thought I understood the power of water.
You see, our estate is on a slope.
So after the heavy rains breached the perimeter wall of our estate, it moved heaps of earth in the drainage blocking the culvert outside our home instantly.
The water had no where to flow other than above the culvert.
Now this is where drama started.
The powerful storm runoff found its way into our compound and made straight for the poor wall.
Within no time, the wall was down and out.
Our neighbor’s vehicle was smashed and damaged in the process.
Funny that acts of nature bring out the worst in a very surprising way.
A week before this destructive even, I had received funding for a partial scholarship – a good thing.
Some weeks before, my family was worried because a health scare – a bad thing.
We had to go through some medical procedures to unearth what we didn’t know.
In all these happenings, I realized that life is a series of ups and downs.
If you’re not in a storm, you are either coming out of one or about to enter one.
In Mathew 7:24-27, the story of the house builders is key.
Just to paraphrase, Christ spoke of two builders – one who built his house on sand while the other on a rock.
Both houses must have looked magnificent and elegant.
But a time of testing was about to come.
The storm came and it pounded both houses.
The one built on sand fell while the one established on the ROCK stood the test of time.
Scripture tells us that the Stone that the buildes rejected has become the Capstone.
That Capstone is Christ.
Storms will come – because in this world we’ll have many troubles.
But what will separate the ones who weather the storm from those who don’t is faith in Christ.
Even in the midst of the challenges that we’ve been through, I’m encouraged.
I also call upon you – my audience – to be encouraged in Him.
Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.
Open your heart to Christ and He shall strengthen you to weather the storms of life.
