“Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
Matthew 24:23-28 NKJV
Christ continues to paint for us a graphic picture of the end times. A few points to ponder about what these days will hold:
- Great deception
From verse 23 to 27, Christ warns us about the deception from those who claim to be Christ. Many of their deceived followers will hold forte for them and point many people towards them. In fact Christ States that they’ll carry out many signs and wonders to deceive many including the elect. They will exalt their names to the extent that people will rush out to them believing they hold the key to salvation and not to the Christ. They will be followed wherever they go, whether it’s in the deserts, in the cities, in the counties and in the villages. Sounds familiar? However Christ warns us NOT to believe in their deception. - Signs of Christ’s second coming: The carcass and lightning analogy
Christ opted to explain how His second coming will be so that we’re not deceived further. In the same way lightning strikes symbolising the coming rain so shall the symbolic signs be revealed before the second coming of the Son of Man. Just in the same way the congregation of eagles and vultures symbolize the presence of a carcass, so shall the signs of the end times (as Christ mentioned them), symbolize the second coming of Christ.
