“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
Matthew 25:37-40 NKJV
This passage speaks about the attitude of the righteous. They did good with no expectation of reward. They did good in service of their Lord. They had an attitude, a heart and a yearning for service. Theirs was a desire to give…a desire to share…a desire to see others prosper.
However, we also note something about Christ’s expectations of us. As stated in the book of James…how can we claim to love a God we do not see when we cannot care for a brother or a sister we can see? Our love for God is crystalized through our demonstration of love towards others. Generosity frees us from selfishness. It makes us realize that what we have as a resource is a tool to be used to draw others closer to God. We cannot claim to love God yet we despise others. We cannot claim to love God yet we’re harsh on others. Our love for God must be tangible. It must manifest itself through the lives of others.
