Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Matthew 24:40-44 NKJV
This passage speaks to us about the nature of the second coming of Christ :
- Christ’s second coming will sanctify or separate people.
In the midst of the daily activities, people will be separated from each other. Some will be taken away while others will be left. This is because, Christ is seeking for a personal relationship with us. He ministers to us corporately but intends that we take individual decisions. Before God, we’ll stand individually. Before God, we’ll be justified individually. Before God, salvation will not be by extension. It will be individual based. So let’s individually keep on working out our salvation with fear and trembling. - His unexpected second coming keeps us hopeful in Him.
There is something unique about expecting a visitor at some specific time. We prepare for them and as the visiting time nears, we engage in top gear ensuring that all will be ready by the time they arrive. This is a habit we love in Kenya. The habit of the last minute rush. However, since we know not the time nor the hour when our great Lord will appear, we do not have that same luxury of time. Any time must be ready time. He may appear when we least expect yet may also not appear when we eagerly expect Him to. But if we walk in fellowship with Him each and every step of the way, when He appears, we’ll be ready for His coming. This gives us a golden opportunity to seek a deeper relationship and fellowship with Him day by day as we wait for that great day.
