LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

…BEFORE THE COCK CROWS…

Peter spoke up and said to Jesus, “I will never leave you, even though all the rest do!” Jesus said to Peter, “I tell you that before the cock crows tonight, you will say three times that you do not know me.” Peter answered, “I will never say that, even if I have to die with you!” And all the other disciples said the same thing.
Matthew 26:33‭-‬35 GNBDC

The truth about Peter’s confession in this passage is it was honest. Peter truly loved Jesus. He desired to stick by His side whatever the situation. However, Peter’s love for Jesus in word would be tested in deed. This same love he confessed when he was at the comfort of the Saviour would be tested when he was standing in the midst of hostile men. This same love for Christ he held on his bossom as he walked with Him in ministry would be tested when he’s left all by himself. This fire he carried within which made him burn for the gospel would be tested by those whose aim is to extinguish it. As the roaster crowed, Peter would realize that it’s not business as usual. That the faith he had in Christ would be tested in the arena of life and this testing would be hostile. But also Peter would discover that the grace of God is also able to lift us out of our depravity and give us strength to be true to the One who’s called us in the midst of a world hostile to us.
