Then the chief priests and the elders met together in the palace of Caiaphas, the High Priest, and made plans to arrest Jesus secretly and put him to death. “We must not do it during the festival,” they said, “or the people will riot.”

Conspiracy to do wrong to others doesn’t come cheap. It comes fuelled with resentment and hatred. However, the conspiracy to crucify Christ had a higher drive. That’s why it was conjured in the palace of the High Priest, Caiaphas. The chief priests and the Pharisees had for a long time corrupted the truth. They profited from the burdens they laid on people’s backs. They enjoyed every moment as they soaked in fame, glory and positions of prominence. All this lasted, till the entry of Christ. Christ came and disorganized their systems. He preached a message of forgiveness and reconciliation back to God through Him. He served people, He healed people, He did good wherever He went and relieved their burdens. To top it all up, wherever He went, multitudes followed Him as He transformed their minds and hearts. The Pharisees and the chief priests were fast losing favour in people’s eyes and they needed to prove to all and sundry that Christ was fake, a false teacher. However , they needed to be meticulous and cunning. They needed to avoid agitating the crowd which believed He was a great teacher. They needed to avoid the Passover feast. They needed to look for an alternative strategy than inciting people on the streets. All they didn’t know was it was all prophesied and determined to happen. They were fulfilling prophecy even as they agitated for the destruction of Christ. Without their knowledge they would be remembered harshly in history as having been the proponents of the death of the Messiah. But more to that, they were acting in line with what was prepared to happen.
