“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “All who take the sword will die by the sword. Don’t you know that I could call on my Father for help, and at once he would send me more than twelve armies of angels? But in that case, how could the Scriptures come true which say that this is what must happen?”
Matthew 26:52-54 GNBDC
Christ called His disciples to attention. He ordered them to desist from violence. He reminded them that being God, He could call on the heavenly Father to send legions of angels to defend Him. Yet He did not because this was the fulfillment of Scripture. These events were bound to happen because they were ordained of God since the beginning of time. What God has set in His mind to take place must take place. The circumstances around the fulfillment of God’s will may be unpleasant, messy or unacceptable. But His will must come to pass. The arrest, torture and ultimate painful death of Christ was for sure an extremely cruel act on an innocent man who preached peace to all. However, in its cruelty and inhumane nature, was the fulfillment of God’s perfect will. We may see circumstances in our lives turning out into a very untidy scenario. We may be going through a rugged valley dark and desolate wondering whether God hears us. The ultimate question is not WHY God has allowed this to happen but WHAT His perfect will is in such a scenario. However painful it is to go through the will of God, as long as He’s leading us and giving us His grace, we shall rejoice and be glad in the end.
