LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

THE PASSOVER

When Jesus had finished teaching all these things, he said to his disciples, “In two days, as you know, it will be the Passover Festival, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”
Matthew 26:1‭-‬2 GNBDC

The Passover was the time the Angel of the Lord passed over the land of Egypt killing every first born Egyptian during the time of Moses. The children of Israel were spared the deaths because they smeared the blood of their animal sacrifices onto their doors. The crucifixion of Christ would happen during this symbolic time. It was not a coincidence that it did. His death on the cross was in order for His blood to mark those who believe, wash their sins and save them from the pending destruction. The Jewish Passover was a period when the people of Israel celebrated God’s salvation over their lives. The death and resurrection of Christ leads us to celebrate God’s salvation over our lives. He died so that we could live.
Christ also speaks of this period as a time when the Son of man will be ‘handed over to be crucified’. The crucifixion of Christ was ordained from the beginning. His death would have to happen in the hands of men. The same men whose lives He would be purchasing by His own blood. For God’s will to occur, He would have to humble Himself before His tormentors. I wonder whether such an act speaks volumes to me!!! God humbling Himself before men to seek their own redemption. This is the extent of love God has for us. In that…while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
