LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

CHRIST CRUCIFIED

They crucified him and then divided his clothes among them by throwing dice. After that they sat there and watched him. Above his head they put the written notice of the accusation against him: “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”
Matthew 27:35‭-‬37 GNBDC

The sequence of events in this passage gives us a sneak preview of the circumstances that prevailed during the crucifixion…He was crucified (verse 35a), His clothes were divided (verse 35b) and then they sat there and watched Him (verse 36). The cross that had been used for His crucifixion had the ‘incriminating accusation’…Jesus Christ, the King of the Jews (verse 37). Not only did they nail Him to the cross but divided His clothes (as prophesied) and watched Him as He died. Christ on many occasions spoke of His death on the cross. Probably they now desired to behold Him as He succumbed to death on the cross. As the sting of the crucifixion bit Christ, the people below Him looked at Him. He was there for all to see. He wasn’t crucified in secret. He was crucified publicly to leave no room for any doubt about the death of Christ.
