The death of Christ at the cross defeated sin. But more to that, it opened up direct access to God the Father. Whereas before, worshippers needed to go through a high priest who acted as a go-between, the death of Christ tore the curtain that separated the common people from the holy of holies…the place where only the high priest could enter and make supplication on behalf of people. No doubt was left in our hearts that this is the doing of the Lord. The curtain itself was heavy and had to be suspended by many people, the curtain itself was torn from top to bottom and not bottom to top, the chief priests themselves were out on the plains of Calvary witnessing the crucifixion…God was sending a message….the Stone that the builders rejected has now become the Capstone. The Man they chose to condemn innocently is now the Mediator between us and God. We all have the capacity to be priests…as stated in the book of 1 Peter. Access to God is open to all through the Man, Jesus Christ. As stated in the book of Hebrews, we could now…boldly approach the throne of grace so that we may find mercy and help in time of need. For just as the writer preludes in the book of Hebrews 1, in the olden days, God spoke and ministered to us through His priests. But today, He speaks to us through the Man Jesus Christ. The curtain is torn…the veil is removed…God is accessible to all because Christ has created the path to access Him.
