LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

HOT TEMPER

A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.
Proverbs 15:18 NIV

In conflict resolution, the temperament of the parties matters. Patient and reasonable people tend to be objective and contribute swiftly to the resolution of a conflict. However, this is not the case for people with short tempers. They always seem to fan the flames of conflict. Their desire always seems to get the upper hand in such situations. Hot tempered people seek to subdue their opponents in situations of conflicts or what we call a zero sum game. Even if the opponents were diplomatic, the drawn battle lines automatically pit them against the other aggressive party. The wisdom of scripture reminds us that a hot tempered person is no asset to society. Infact, he or she is a gross liability. In a world where conflict abounds, hot tempered people aggravate it even further. However, the better way is to seek God to help us in our hot tempered struggles and seek to build bridges instead of walls.
