LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

REFRAIN FROM ANGER

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.
Psalms 37:8 NIV

Most times, when we lose our temper, we blame it on a cause. We act as if we have no choice other than to get angry. However here in Psalms 37:8, we’re told to ‘refrain from anger and to turn away from wrath!’. What a scripture! We are not held hostage by anger, rage or wrath! Rather, we have control over them. We can choose to allow them into our space or altogether avoid them. The unfortunate thing is that most of us (including myself) forget during the heat of the moment that we have the greatest part to play in the way we react to situations around us. If we choose to be slaves to anger, then we will be walking down the path of sin. Anger carries with it no good. It only carries with it resentment which ultimately graduates to dislike and hatred. This is the warning scripture gives us. We must turn away from anger and wrath because their result is always sin.
