A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

Christ enters a house and starts teaching. As usual, being a crowd puller, He attracts so many people that there isn’t enough room left. It’s interesting that some men heard about Him and chose to bring their paralysed friend for healing. But the most astonishing thing is the determination and willpower they demonstrated. Since they found no space to set the disabled man before Christ, they dug through the roof and let him down to Him. Pose a bit and just admire their faith and belief that Christ heals. Their faith in Him was so solid that they just needed to bring the man to Jesus’ feet. It didn’t matter how. He seemed hard to access. But either way, a way was found to access Him. In our world today, Christ at times may seem hard to access. We might fellowship in church, serve in a ministry, engage in a life of a Christian yet feel so far and detached from Him. Well, our Lord creates opportunities for us to access Him either way. He provides people around us to be bosom buddies who support us when in need. At times we feel defeated and discouraged. Situations disable us and make us a laughing stock of many. But God provides people to walk with us, support us and be an encouragement to us just as the four friends of this man. As he was lowered to Christ, He forgave his sins instead of first healing him. Isn’t it amazing that God forgives and restores? This is the greatest miracle of all. The forgiveness and restoration of man from sin and it’s grip. Life many times forces us to make choices. But Christ here reminds us that the greatest choice we can make is a choice to be reconciled back to God.
