They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”

Christ’s mission on this earth was to die and rise again in order to deliver man from sin. In the midst of much activity around Him, His disciples could have been fooled to think that this Superstar was here to stay. They enjoyed walking under His instruction, His company and possibly enjoyed being seen with Him. But Christ pointed them to what was going to happen in the near future. He would be condemned by the chief priests who would hand Him over to be crucified by the Romans. His march towards the cross would be painful and thankless. Infact He would die for the same people who orchestrated His death. Have you ever tried to do good to people who really don’t seem to appreciate the good you’re doing? The good that Christ was doing for us was unappreciated yet He did it out of love. Today we’re new creatures, saved and sanctified by the blood He shed on the cross.
