17 Then the Lord said to Moses, 18 “Make a bronze basin, with its bronze stand, for washing. Place it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it. 19 Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet with water from it. 20 Whenever they enter the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water so that they will not die. Also, when they approach the altar to minister by presenting a food offering to the Lord, 21 they shall wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come.”

A bronze basin was to contain water for cleansing of the priests as they entered the tent of meeting. This basin was to he placed just at the entrance of this tent facilitating cleansing before going to encounter God. The altar of incense was a place set up for burning of incense which symbolized prayers. God didn’t allow this ministry without first a cleansing…a washing. As we go before God in prayer (offering incense), we must first seek for forgiveness if we have wronged others (cleansing). Forgiveness and reconciliation plays a crucial role in ones cleansing before appearing in God’s presence. But more importantly, we must seek forgiveness from God for any sins we’ve done. God embraces us as we are. Just as He allowed Israelites entry into the courts, His arms are open allowing us to encounter Him. But if we desire a closer walk with God, we must seek to be cleansed by the blood of Christ so that our petitions to Him will not be in vain.
