There’s just something about falling and rising up that the writer of the Proverbs is alluding to. He warns those eyeing the wealth of the righteous that though they put them down, they will bounce back up again for the umpteenth time. The righteous rise up because of the hope they have in a greater God who sees what they cannot see. They rise back up again because of the faith they put in their God. They are sometimes discouraged by failure but yet again get encouraged by the promises God has given them through His word. They are at times frustrated by sinful systems such as corruption. They may even lose the source of their livelihoods because of being obedient to God. However, they lift their heads up high and choose to be confident not in themselves but in the God who’s given them strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow. But the wicked are not so. They stumble even at the slightest sight of calamity. They are always checking over their shoulders for they know the source of their ill-gotten wealth. When they fall, they see themselves as failures because they’ve used all sort of trickery to amass wealth for themselves. Failure humbles us. But it also gives us a chance to rise back up again and fix our eyes onto the perfecter of our faith… Christ Jesus.
